Spectrasyne is the world leader in DIAL-based environmental surveying for the oil and chemical industries, but our services are applicable to any industry that requires monitoring and control of gaseous releases to the atmosphere.

We use a technique called DIAL (Differential Absorption LIDAR). This is a non-intrusive technology which allows us to measure concentration profiles and mass emission rates of various gaseous species.

The system is housed in our environmental surveying vehicle. Our mobile unit contains a 'duplex' DIAL system allowing us to measure 2 species or species groups simultaneously, for example, VOCs and benzene or methane and NO & NO2.The DIAL vehicle and sites

To date, most of our work has been in the oil industry, where we measure mass emission rates of VOCs and aromatics from refineries, storage areas, terminals and other facilities. Many other industries and utilities, such as airports, have also used our DIAL system to quantify their emissions. 

Some of the gases we measure regularly include:
  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) individually or as mixtures
  • Benzene
  • Toluene
  • NO and NO2
  • Methane
